Oscar Muñoz

Oscar Muñoz (1951)

kiállítása: Mirror Image 13 June - 27 July 2008, Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts), London
Courtesy of Sicardi Gallery, Houston plus speedmuseum 2007

Muñoz says: My work insists […] in documenting an immemorial scenario: the ‘logic of everyday thinking’ that stems from the impossibility of retaining and fixing images permanently.
...My work today arises from my interest in understanding how a society comes to accept war – or rather, a dark and corrupted succession of wars over more than 50 years and which have not yet ended - as part of the routine of living, where both the past and the present are plagued with daily violent events which are persistently repeated.

plus: „In Aliento (1996-2002), mirrored discs are mounted on a wall. The glossy surface invites the viewer to look deeper. Breathing on the glass reveals faces – from photographs in Colombian newspapers - which disappear as the mist diminishes.”

Ana Mendieta, Joan Jonas, Chantal Akerman, Francesca Woodman, Lili Dujourie

„Ana Mendieta’s moving photographs of her naked body flattened by a pane of glass (as “live photographs”) and the “remnant photographs” of a Joan Jonas performance where women hold full length mirrors in front of their body and mirror the audience in them, are also provocative. There are poetic moments to be found in the work of Belgian Lilly Dujourie (photos) and her better known compatriot Chantal Ackerman (film). (Some of French Agnes Varda’s films could have perhaps been included)”. (coagula magazinban - 20070517)

MEXICO CITY.- Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo presents Elipsis: Chantal Akerman, Lili Dujourie, Francesca Woodman, on view October 4, January 6, 2008. The exhibit will present together works by Chantal Akerman (Brussels, 1950), Lili Dujourie (Lovendegem, 1941) and Francesca Woodman (Denver, 1958 – New York, 1981), for the first time. During the 1970’s the artists did performance art in front of a camera. The artist’s proposals refer to the alienated relationship of woman in the world. Their worries relate to the construction and representation of the identity.

Michel de Broin

Michel de Broin's - Superficielle 2004, - mirrors in the forest have an alien-like effect...

Mirror, glue, cement / Vosges, Alsace, France

"Upon invitation to reflect on the notion of transparency, that led me into the forest to envelop the contour of a large stone with fragments of mirror. The large stone, tucked away deep in the woods, became a reflective surface for its surroundings. In this play of splintered radiance, the rock disappears in its reflections. Because it reflects one cannot be mislead by its presence, yet we cannot seize it, rather it is the rock that reflects us."

Később, kevésbé szűkszavúan ugyan, kísérletet tettem a helyzet realizálására: forgó asztallapra poharakat szereltem egy fényképezőgép társaságában, mely rögzítette a "zárt rendszer" hidraulikáját, a ferde vízszintet.
A másik komponens E. A. Poe egyik elbeszélése, A Maelström poklában, melynek főszereplője egy hatalmas örvény, egy ébenfekete színű, tükörsima falú óriási görbület, mely mindent elnyel, ami a vonzáskörzetébe kerül, történetesen szerencsétlenül járt halászokat.
A Maelström projekt keretei ennél persze szűkebbre szabottak, az "örvény" 45 liter motorolaj megforgatásával jön létre. A fekete folyadék tükör felületet képez, mely a forgó mozgás által parabola felszínné görbül. A bekapcsolás pillanatától a végleges sebesség eléréséig folyamatos átalakuláson megy keresztül: a parabola íve egyre mélyül.

1975, 22:52 min, b&w, sound Recorded at Video Free America in San Francisco.
Graham: "Through the use of the mirror the audience is able to instantaneously perceive itself as a public mass (as a unity), offsetting its definition by the performer ('s discourse). The audience sees itself reflected by the mirror instantly while the performer's comments are slightly delayed. First, a person in the audience sees himself 'objectively' ('subjectively') perceived by himself, next he hears himself described 'objectively' ('subjectively') in terms of the performer's perception."

A szerkezet a periszkóp elven működik. A hibrid-lény neve: mus-papilionoidea.

Overviewer, Serralves Museum, Porto, 2001
Periszkóp, amivel a kiállítótér falán átláthatunk.

Adrian Piper

Adrian Piper (1948) Everything #10,(2007; durational performance for an unspecified number of participants)

Piper újsághirdetésben keresett résztvevőket a performanszhoz. „The participants will be asked keep journals of their experiences and audience reactions during the project, then re-read the journals a year after the performance. Written directly on the forehead the text suggests the layered, shifting organization and loss of memory. It is both a promise and a threat. What will be taken away and what do we consider to be ‘our’ everything? Everything will be taken away is labeled #10 as it is the tenth rendition of the ongoing series the artist began in 2003. The simple prose has been displayed in a variety of media including sandwich boards and on personal photographs that have been photocopied, printed and erased. Contingent upon the context and relationship to the audience, the sentence reveals new aspects of its potential meanings with each adaptation. The endurance and repetition of the phrase is crucial to the series and the relationship to Piper’s writings and philosophical work. A student and teacher of philosophy and meta-ethics, Piper often employs Hindu philosophical imagery and concepts, such as the henna used in this project.”
